Translated by John Browjohn
For a wile I am going to take you away from the preset day. I am going to take you back, back to the time on princes and court jesters and knights. I am going to take you away from the boring hustle bustle of today’s life. I want you all to forget for a moment why we have to get up at butt 30 in the morning or lay around all day with out a cloud in our heads. Forget your own worries and believe in a Prince, one who is going to take a very large step down on the totem pole.
Meet Prince Florin a young boy about to be king. He lives in a medieval time and his country has been under war for as long as the young prince has known. You fall for his father who rules his people with a stern but fair hand. The king goes out on a peace mission, one to end this dreadful war, only to leave his son in charge. A young prince, just a boy, with a hole world at his fingertips. It is not long before he is very bored, then when his father sends him a letter one to come and celebrate at a joyous banquet in the court of their former enemy, but sadly he is greeted by betrayal.
Going from a high prince to a lowly apprentice of a court jester. If he has not enough on his plate he must find a way to save his father from being hung, his country and people, and lastly, himself. To top it off his mentor Mimus, the court jester, does not take well to him and try’s to stay as far and uninvolved as possible.
Can a prince one day turned jester the next save his father, his people, and himself…or is he going to have to chose? Can he make an old stick in the mud jester is friend?
This book is full of high adventure and low humor, of the worst kind of mean and the most unexpected kindness. Of bear trainers and stilt walkers you cant put it down.
This web page has more to say and can say it better than I can.

The Author Lilli Thal
Lilli Thal has a master’s degree in medieval history, art, and archeology. Her inspiration for Mimus cane in part from her readings on medieval monarchs and their children as well as the lives of court jesters. It was, however, the anecdotal stories from the period that had the most powerful influence on the author. In one royal household expenditure she found this entry: “two iron neck bands, one for the Duchess’ monkey, and another for the female jester Belon…” Thal has won multiple awards for her three previous young adult novels. She lives in a small town in Germany.
